"Riverdale" Spinoff "Katy Keene" Will Include Pussycats, Boxing Matches, and Maybe Even Archie Andrews

I never thought this day would come, but it looks like we're inching closer and closer to the crossover to end all crossovers: Riverdale's own Archie Andrews could legit make an appearance on the upcoming CW spinoff series Katy Keene.

Okay, so, admittedly, there's no official confirmation that one of Riverdale's favorite redheads will be appearing on Katy Keene, executive producer Michael Grassi said everything and nothing about a possible appearance at the 2019 Tribeca TV Festival. According to Deadline, Michael hinted that Katy Keene viewers "will definitely see someone from Riverdale and K.O. face off in the ring," referring to Katy's boyfriend, boxer K.O. Kelly (Zane Holtz).

It's not hard to do the math on this one to deduce Archie could be showing up given this hint. He's one of the few Riverdale dudes honing his skills in the boxing ring of late, and it's not entirely outside the realm of possibility he continues to pursue boxing in the future. Unfortunately, that's all Michael said on the crossover possibility.

Michael and series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa seemed more comfortable confirming other Riverdale crossovers. Michael confirmed that Robin Givens, who plays Josie's mom, would also show up. "We love Robin Givens," he commented to the press. "She will come to visit for sure." Additionally, Roberto revealed that "we definitely will be seeing the Pussycats, but probably not in the way you expect." The news even surprised (and delighted) Ashleigh Murray, who of course played Pussycats frontwoman Josie McCoy on Riverdale and will also be a leading cast member on Katy Keene.

Previously, CW president Mark Pedowitz stated a Riverdale-Katy Keene crossover would never happen. Given the time span between the two shows, it makes sense the network wouldn't want to commit too quickly to having a particular Riverdale character pop up, lest their arc on the show be spoiled or somehow steered in a direction that can't change as the drama unfolds. Now, knowing that the creative folks behind the scenes are more open to working Riverdale crossovers into Katy Keene means that seeing the Pussycats and Josie's mom is just the tip of the iceberg; Archie could (and should) show up, too, even if it's just for a good old-fashioned boxing match.
