Some ‘Riverdale’ Fans Are Confusing Lili Reinhart & Cole Sprouse’s Split for a Bughead Breakup

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Riverdale costars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse have reportedly broken up after two years together. The two haven’t released any sort of confirmation yet, but that’s pretty par for the course for them. Rumors about Lili and Cole dating started as early as February 2017, but the couple didn’t bother confirming their relationship status until April 2018. Although, to be fair, that didn’t stop them from posting adorable photos of each other on Insta before then.

“I am one of those guys that’s never, ever going to talk about my private life with the public sphere,” Cole told Elle.com right in the beginning. “I mean, people can talk about the Jughead as much as they want, but when it comes to the personal relationships, I have spent much of my life separating work and play, so I will continue to do so.”

Things were going great for a while, and seemingly all weekend at San Diego Comic Con, but looks can be deceiving. Us Weekly reported that a source overheard Cole telling a friend that he and Lili broke up. According to another E! source, they broke up earlier this summer and “are not living together this season.” I’m just going to leave this here:

But Sprousehart fans are not waiting for Cole and Lili to speak out before posting their thoughts on the internet. People have a lot of feelings. Some will straight-up not believe the split until they hear from the couple themselves:

But oddly, some seem to be confusing Cole and Lili for their Riverdale characters Jughead and Betty. Apparently, a Sprousehart breakup could mean the end of Bughead and usher in the rise of Barchie:
