Rita's Reflections: Heaven and the power of love to get us there

Nothing is solid. Quantum physics says that 99.9999 percent of what is called matter is empty space. Within this space is energy and everything is made up of energy.

About a year ago, Larry began reading to me while I practice feeling the energy between my hands while soaking in a bath of Epsom salt. The sensation is like the pull of mini magnets attracting. When I was little, I walked on my dad’s achy back. My friend Brittany thinks I may have had tiny Reiki feet.

Reiki (rei meaning universal life and ki meaning energy) is a holistic Japanese technique that is used to reduce stress, depression, anxiety, and physical pain. Reiki is not a religion or based on any certain belief or faith. It can be used alongside conventional medicine to aid in recovery, but it should never take the place of medical treatment.

Reiki provides great relief for chemotherapy patients and many other conditions.

A Reiki practitioner sets the stage like a conduit and any healing comes from a higher power. The practice of Reiki varies by individual. Except for the condition, my prayer is the same — “Release the (insert affliction) into the white light of the Holy Spirit. This I pray in Jesus’ name.” Amen.

Much like everything I tackle, I am self-taught. Although I am familiar with Reiki, I am not qualified to speak on it other than what I have shared here and how I use it personally. Skilled practitioners go through extensive training, I gleaned all my knowledge from a book by Des Hynes, “Reiki Your Personal Guide.”

Sharing my energy while stargazing keeps Larry’s blood pressure in the normal range. There are no unpleasant side effects, and I am always on call. So far, the results are as effective as eating an apple a day to keep the doctor away. At Larry’s physical in February, his blood pressure was 128/78.

Reiki helped Tucker, the family dog, have a better quality of life before losing his battling with an aggressive cancer in his leg. Dr. Rob, the veterinarian who cared for Tucker, had never heard of a dog with his condition living that long. Tucker would come up to me at random and push his body against me. When Tucker was done, he would walk away. Tucker may not have known why I could make him feel better, but he knew I could.

For those that don’t believe animals go to heaven, I believe they will be first in line to greet their humans. Besides there was that movie, “All Dogs Go to Heaven.” Who would lie about something that serious.

A few years back a couple of our chickens got trapped outside in freezing temperatures when the wind blew the hen house door shut. One of the chicken’s feet got frostbitten quite badly. I put Vaseline on her injured feet then wrapped them in a light layer of gauze and hoped for the best. Jody stumbled around like a high-stepping Otis the town drunk on the Andy Griffith Show. Her feet eventually healed but she lost the top layer of skin that left them tender and sore in chilly weather. Jody seems to know reiki helps. One day she gripped my hand tighter than usual, and I thought I heard her cluck an amen.

Our talents come from God or a higher power if you prefer. If we use our gifts to glorify God, we should never fear what others think. If we seek glory that is not ours to bathe in, that is on us. To God be the glory!
