This Risky Neon Shade Just Lit Up the London Runways
Season after season, Fyodor Golan designers Fyodor Podgorny and Golan Frydman’s hyper-bright color stories have always extended above the neck. And for Spring, the pair, who collaborated with Plastic Oceans U.K. to spotlight plastic pollution in the sea, opted to accentuate their ’80s-leaning, aquatic-themed collection of Technicolor netted frocks, color-blocked athleisurewear, and slinky sequined evening numbers with a pop of shocking neoprene pigment on the lips.
Inspired by the ocean and its surrounding colors, textures, and characters (think: ethereal sea sirens), lead makeup artist Jenny Coombs saturated each model’s pout in neon-tangerine, playing off the dewy, sun-kissed skin, boyish brushed-up brows, and glossy lashes coated with translucent mascara to mimic fresh-from-the-surf water droplets.
For a cool, blurred effect, Coombs applied the lip color with her fingers, starting with a base of creamy orange, then turning up the intensity with a more vivid citrus. “It was important to maintain a soft feeling as if the girls had done it themselves,” she explained backstage. Topping off the mouth, as well as the lids and high planes of the face, with slicks of Jillian Dempsey’s Lid Tint in Dew, each girl’s individuality radiated with her unexpected pop of zesty orange and allover luminous glow.
The lesson? Whether you’re channeling a modern mermaid, or spring fever has arrived way ahead of schedule, a diffused neon lip and glowing skin is all you really need for a tropical contact high.
