Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is a very flawed film in the eyes of many, with plenty of people being displeased at how the film makes you think Chewbacca is dead... for all of a minute before revealing he's alive (and in a second ship that no-one just happened to see or sense with The Force).

In the film, the First Order don't really do anything with Chewie until he gets rescued, despite having a wealth of valuable information on the Resistance.

Well, it turns out that they did in fact shoot a scene where he gets tortured, but it was cut from the final product.

In Chewie actor Joonas Suotamo's 'My Life as a Wookiee' (translated from Finnish and shared on Twitter by an Adam Driver fan account), it is revealed that the torture scene was "very intense" and that he believes it was cut because it undermined Kylo's eventful redemption and sacrifice.

Interestingly, the scene does appear in the official novelization, with Kylo reading Chewie's mind and, instead of finding hatred, he sees only images of love that Chewie has for the young Ben Solo.

The novelization's author Rae Carson was asked about the scene and confirmed that the mind reading bit was something she added with studio approval, meaning that bit was not shot for the film.

The Skywalker Saga may have ended (again, and for now) but Rian Johnson's non-Skywalker Saga trilogy is still on the horizon, while Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron is set for a 2023 release.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+.
