Rihanna Seems to Have Covered Up Matching Shark Tattoo She Once Had With Drake

Back in 2016, Rihanna added a camo-print shark tattoo to her ever-expanding collection of body art — inspired, it was believed, by a date she'd gone on with Drake. The rapper also had a matching camo shark tattoo, though his isn't on his ankle like Rihanna's, but rather on his forearm. However, it looks like Rih's camo shark is no more, and appears to have been covered up with a new tattoo.

As noted by People, Rihanna was out and about in New York City recently alongside A$AP Rocky when the case of the missing ink began. Rih was photographed out on the town in a pink dress and snakeskin ankle-strap sandals, which made it very clear that the shark tatt was no more. It seems to have been covered up by a crown illustration meaning that the matching shark tattoos might just be a thing of the past.

At the time of her initial ink sesh, Rihanna's tattoo artist Keith "Bang Bang" McCurdy told Vanity Fair that "the significance is personal," and added that the shark tattoo was done in Drake's dressing room. "I’ve seen many people guessing the meaning online, but it’s not my place to share publicly," he said of the ink. "I will say, I’ve made many tattoos for Rihanna and this one was my favorite!"

Drake and Rihanna dated (and collaborated musically) for a handful of years, but it seems like the two aren't close anymore. In 2018, Rihanna told Vogue that the two weren't friends, and Drake has since unfollowed her on Instagram. Recently, Rih has been dating A$AP Rocky, with the rapper telling GQ that she's "the love of my life" and "the One."

The supposed tattoo removal seems relatively recent; BuzzFeed reports that she still had it in May. Rihanna is ready for a new era of life and love, and saying goodbye to the shark might just mean that that chapter is officially closed.
