Rihanna’s Crop Over dominance is well documented. As the undisputed queen of Barbados’ biggest festival, she has used her previous appearances at the annual Kadooment Day parade into a showcase for costume designer Lauren Austin’s daring creations. Which meant revealing fashion in line with the vibrant spirit of carnival—2017’s stunning crystal bralette and matching epaulets left little to the imagination—but this time around, the bad gal was in the mood for something different. Embellished with marabou feathers, her pink mini dress by Dutch designer, David LaPort was suitably festive, while offering a different take on dressing for an event where less is usually more.

With her hair in Bantu knots and makeup artist Priscilla Ono on hand to provide a swipe of lime eyeshadow, Rihanna greeted the crowds with a smile. Her flourish of feathers and bright pink was complemented by a pair of crystal-covered eyeglasses and pastel heels. The addition of diamond bangles and chandelier earrings added a touch of red carpet glam, though the look remained carnival appropriate. By going against the grain without losing any of the fun we’ve come to expect from her Crop Over wardrobe, Rihanna stole the show yet again.
