Rihanna Performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show is Something We Can All Agree On

You know, after last year's Super Bowl halftime show—an absolute joyride that featured Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar—I thought we we in for a real dud. The NFL has to NFL at some point. Adam Levine playing "Stereo Hearts" five times in a row, anyone?
That said, it's my pleasure to report that we're safe. (For 2023, at least.) During a particularly chaotic Sunday of football that saw a butt punt, the NFL and Roc Nation confirmed that Rihanna will be Super Bowl LVII's halftime performer. Rihanna announced the good news herself via an Instagram post, which you can view below. In a statement announcing the upcoming performance, the NFL wrote: “Rihanna is a generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has surpassed expectations at every turn. A person born on the small island of Barbados who became one of the most prominent artists ever. Self-made in business and entertainment.”
The NFL reportedly offered Rihanna the gig a few years back, but amid the fallout from the National Anthem protests in the league, she declined. "I couldn’t dare do that," Rihanna told Vogue in 2019. "For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way."
Regardless, we can all agree that Rihanna is a great choice for the show, especially since she's been away from the public eye, music-wise, the past few years. Super Bowl LVII will go down on Sunday, February 12, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. That means we have about five months to make our dream setlist for the show. Whose money is on a JAY-Z/"Umbrella" cameo?
