Rihanna Gives Details About Her Highly Anticipated Reggae Album

The singer says her album will be reggae-infused.

Rihanna may just be the busiest woman in show business right now — managing a beauty empire, clothing label, and lingerie company. She's got her hands full, but music is still a priority for her, as she discussed with Vogue for their November cover story.

Rihanna spoke to Abby Aguirre and revealed that she's working on not one, but two albums. “I like to look at it as a reggae-inspired or reggae-infused album,” the Bajan singer said about the project fans refer to as "R9," since it's her ninth studio album. “It’s not gonna be typical of what you know as reggae. But you’re going to feel the elements in all of the tracks.”

For her second project, slated to come out after R9, RiRi said it will be about "the evolution of where I’m going next with music.”

She also shared that she's collaborating with Lil Nas X on something that “may not even be with music.”

But the most important takeaway from the interview: The 31-year-old is never going to stop making music, even if it takes her longer to release it than fans would like.

“Music is, like, speaking in code to the world, where they get it. It’s the weird language that connects me to them," Rihanna said. "Me the designer, me the woman who creates makeup and lingerie — it all started with music. It was my first pen pal–ship to the world. To cut that off is to cut my communication off. All of these other things flourish on top of that foundation.”
