Rihanna Embraces Her Roots With a Tongue-In-Cheek Tee
Rihanna’s rise to superstardom is the stuff dreams are made of: the Barbados-born talent was discovered by Jay-Z’s label Def Jam at just 15 years old, moved to the U.S. a year later, and became an international star seemingly overnight. But it seems the singer-turned-business entrepreneur has never forgotten where she comes from, despite all the success she’s enjoyed—and today, she seemed to pay homage to her roots on Instagram, where she sported a cheeky tee that referenced her past in style.
Reading “Art School Dropout,” the design—by the London-based “non-binary queer-luxury” label Art School—alluded to the fact that Rihanna bypassed getting a traditional college degree during her upbringing (though she did earn the Humanitarian of the Year award from Harvard in 2017—talk about an iconic full-circle moment).
In her Instagram caption, Rihanna also spoke of the “overwhelming” year that she’s had, apologizing to her “friends/family/coworkers who I have yet to get back to in the past months. I’m working on that ish called Balance,” she wrote. And why acquire a degree when life keeps her busy enough as it is? She styled her statement T-shirt with a dramatic top hat and tons of gold jewelry, including chain necklaces and the biggest ring on planet Earth—something I’m sure her multiple booming businesses helped pay for.
