The Rig is an affordable off-road bike for wheelchair users

The world might have just gotten a little bit more accessible for wheelchair users thanks to the Rig.

The off-road wheelchair is “not a wheelchair” according to the company, and that’s because it has so many additional features. Husband and wife YouTubers Zack Nelson and Cambry Kaylor of Jerry Rig Everything created the Rig together. Kaylor uses a wheelchair herself, so you can peep her in the driver’s seat in the video demo.

The Rig has four wheels but uses bicycle parts, like its tires, for easy maintenance. Unlike most wheelchairs, it has a rear rack mounting system, massive wheels and is functional on any terrain a bike is. Kaylor cruises down a rocky, dirt road, a snowy mountainside, a grassy forest and a sandy beach in the clip. She easily navigates each space on her own.

“I love my light blue Rig,” Kaylor says in the video. “We’ve put over one thousand miles on it and its taken me places I never in a million years thought I could go. Like on a hike to a waterfall in Hawaii or up the canyon on packed snow, which are all places I wouldn’t be able to go in my normal wheelchair.”

The battery-powered Rig is noise-free, can travel up to 12 miles per hour and comes in a broad range of colors. It took Zack and Kaylor years to make an affordable, customizable off-road wheelchair. Judging from Kaylor’s own experience they succeeded.
