Rider's Definition Of A Flow Trail May Have Been Affected By Jet Lag

Winter is in full swing in the Northern Hemisphere. While many of our trails are covered in snow, The trails in New Zealand are perfect in the middle of their summer.

Benoit Coulanges is one of many riders chasing the hero dirt. Watch his first lap with countryman Olivier Cuvet.

In his caption, Coulanges jokingly refers to his ride with Cuvet as flow. Of course, the trails that Coulnanged rides are anything bit. Benoit navigates tight steep turns, steep rock slabs, and steep chutes, anything but flow.

For a first ride off the plane, these trails are burly. Most riders like to do a warmup day when they go on a trip, but Coulanges is linking up with his friends, and is a World Cup rider so why not get sketchy?

Benoit did this ride on an enduro bike. While DH racers frequently ride their race bikes to practice, their training also consists of a great deal of pedaling an enduro bike. Gotta stay well-rounded!

Benoit Coulanges is a French Downhill racer who rides for Dorval AM, one of the many professional teams running Commencal Bikes. COulanges has been at the pointy end for a few years and finally was able to break through and secure his first victory in 2023.

Coulanges is making the pilgrimage to New Zealand along with many other pros from Europe and North America. There, riders can ride bike parks, and experience New Zealand’s unique riding. While getting what laps you can in your home country, there is no replacement for the repetitions of bike park laps, especially in the offseason.
