"This Is It"- Rider Commits To Dangerous Line

As fall arrives in the Pacific Northwest, the days get shorter and it rains almost every day. This means that moisture sticks around on trails with a passion.

This can make riding very slippery. Watch as Max Grayston rediscovers this fact on a terrifying rock slab below.

In this video, Grayston drops into a slab that turns out to be very slippery and carries far too much speed off of it causing him to crash at the bottom.

The reason he goes so fast is that it is a bad idea to attempt to control speed on wet rock. Braking will only cause the wheels to lock and slide on the wet stone. For this reason, a seasoned slab rider's instinct is to let off the brakes if they feel their tires slip.

What makes this rock even more slippery is the presence of moss. Often rock slabs are purged of moss for grip because it gets incredibly slick in the rain. This specific slab seems to have taken the route of letting bikes clear the moss. Unfortunately, this means slippery times in the winter.

Thankfully Max was okay after this high-speed exit of the slab.

Max Grayston is a Canadian freerider who rides for Orbea. He is known for winning the Pinkbike Academy reality web series.
