Rick and Morty season 7 is certifiably rotten. That’s according to reviews aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, which has awarded the animated comedy a lowly 33% audience score after 100+ reviews.

Its critical score, based on the reviews of seven professional critics so far, isn’t much better at 57%. That’s a far cry from the previous season, which got 91%. Up until now, Rick and Morty’s lowest Rotten Tomatoes score was 86% for season 5.

As for what the critics are saying about Season 7 so far, Indiewire says: “As it stands, Season 7 reads as a passable but uninspired effort to maintain the status quo…missed opportunities this major can mean the difference between becoming a show that’s temporarily middling or turning into a genre mainstay that’s permanently mediocre.”

Inverse, meanwhile, asks “Has Rick and Morty run out of ideas?”, writing “season 7 may be the final nail in the coffin for this once brilliant cartoon.” Oh well, there are still at least five films to still look forward to in 2023.

It’s worth mentioning these reviews are based on just the first two episodes of the five-episode season, so that Rotten Tomatoes score is likely to change. But for a show that once attracted sky-high reviews, it’s a huge fall from grace.
