Richland Academy of the Arts offering summer classes in theatre, magic and film

Richland Academy of the Arts in Mansfield will offer weeklong workshops for theatre and film plus theatre classes to keep students connected through the summer. Programs will run from June 3 through Aug. 16.

Lights, Camera, Action! Theatre Class

This new theatre workshop is for ages 7-13. It runs from June 26-28. In this three-day crash course, students will learn a scene, a song, choreography, build a set, and design a costume. The popular Little Black Box Theatre ACT I and ACT II classes that culminate in a performance will also be offered.

Mini Magic Sampler

This mini course will start students on the path to becoming real magicians. Each session will feature a new trick to learn and a chance to perform for peers with performance tips. Registration for this class is repeatable as each session will feature unique learning opportunities. Mini Magic Sampler is designed for ages 8 and older and is offered in three-week sessions beginning June 4 and running through July 23.

Summer Film Camp with Leapyear Studios, Jennifer Enskat & Andy Gardner

This hands-on weeklong film camp is designed for high school students ages 14-18 who are interested in learning the fundamentals of film craft. Students will take a deep dive into the world of filmmaking as you learn the various crew positions from industry pros. Students will be introduced to grip and electric, lighting, audio and cinematography while making a short science fiction film. This camp runs from June 10-14 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with a lunch break. Support for this program was provided by the Summertime Kids Grant from the Richland County Foundation and the Carl and Annamarie Fernyak Fund of the Richland County Foundation. The "Ghost Hunters" film made by students of the Film Craft Basics class taught by Leapyear Studios at RAA last fall can be seen by visiting Ghost Hunters on YouTube.

Class registration is ongoing and multi-class discounts continue through the summer along with a chance to win a $50 RAA gift card for early-bird registration through May 31.
