Recently, Richard Simmons took to social media with a seemingly ominous update for his followers.

"I have some news to tell you. Please don’t be sad. I am ….dying," the Sweatin’ to the Oldies star wrote on Facebook on Monday, March 18. "Oh I can see your faces now. The truth is we all are dying. Every day we live we are getting closer to our death."

The fitness personality, 75, continued: "Why am I telling you this? Because I want you to enjoy your life to the fullest every single day. Get up in the morning and look at the sky… count your blessings and enjoy."

In his lengthy update, Simmons also shared tips for staying healthy, including eating well and exercising. He then offered a final tidbit of advice.

"There is something else very important that you must do. Tell the ones that you love that you love them," he wrote. "Hug those people and children who you really care for. A big hug really goes a long way."

Simmons concluded: "If you have time I want you to listen to a terrific song. It is by Tim McGraw it is called Live Like You Were Dying. Live today and don’t forget to pray."

In the comments, fans reacted to Simmons' bizarre post with words of gratitude. One person wrote, "You are so loved, Richard. I know you know that. Thank you for everything you’ve given us."

Another Facebook user commented, "You have always had an encouraging, supportive, enlightening approach to life and to people. Thank you for spreading the love and lifting us all up."

Later, Simmons took to X (formerly Twitter) to clear up the confusion surrounding his "dying" remarks. “Sorry many of you have gotten upset about my message today. Even the press has gotten in touch with me," he wrote. "I am not dying."

He added: "It was a message about saying how we should embrace every day that we have. Sorry for this confusion."

Although Simmons' workout videos were wildly popular in the late '70s and '80s, the fitness personality took a noticeable step back from the spotlight in 2014.

After being in the public eye since the ’80s, the “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” host took a step back from the spotlight in 2014—although he remains active on social media.
