Richard Sherman is mad (again) about being drug-tested by NFL

Continuing the long tradition of NFL players being mad about drug tests, Richard Sherman is mad about a drug test.

Two of them, to be exact.

The San Francisco 49ers Pro Bowl cornerback was up early on Twitter on Thursday complaining about drug tests he was ordered to undergo as he prepared for Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Drug tests a regular source of angst

Complaining about drug testing has become a pastime among NFL players.

Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid accused the NFL of targeting him during the 2018 season as he was repeatedly tested. Reid believed the league was after him because of his outspoken stance on social justice issues and alliance with Colin Kaepernick.

New York Jets running back Le’Veon Bell complained in November about his fifth drug test in 10 weeks, vowing to not the let the league continue to “stick me with those dirty-ass needles.”

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was agitated with a random drug test order at the conclusion of his season this year.

Sherman’s history with drug testing

This is not Sherman’s first beef with the NFL on the drug testing front.

Sherman wasn’t happy about getting tested after the 49ers’ divisional-round playoff victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

He threatened to sue the NFL in 2012 when a drug test showed that he reportedly tested positive for banned stimulant Adderall. He appealed the ban on the argument that the test was tainted due to improper handling by its administrators. The NFL granted his appeal and lifted a four-game suspension.

So there’s history here for Sherman.

Also, he doesn’t like needles.
