Richard Gere's Wife Offers Health Update Following Actor's Hospitalization

Richard Gere was enjoying a Mexican vacation with his family when the actor was hospitalized after falling ill.

Richard Gere's wife, Alejandra (Silva) Gere, is speaking out with an update on how her husband is feeling.

On Feb. 19, the Spain-born publicist took to Instagram to share that the Pretty Woman actor is recovering and feeling "much better" after being hospitalized with pneumonia during a family trip to Mexico, noting that the "worst has already past."

The 73-year-old had been vacationing with Alejandra and their children in celebration of her 40th birthday.

"I woke up this morning and I saw the news and all your kind and worry messages, he is recovering ❤️‍🩹 he is felling [sic] much better today! The worst has already pass! [sic] Thank you all for you sweet messages we really appreciate them! ♥️♥️ #thankyou" she captioned the social media post, which was featured alongside a photo of the couple walking hand-in-hand with their young son.

Two days prior, the 40-year-old divulged that her whole family had actually been feeling under the weather for the past several weeks. "Thank you for all the birthday wishes..after almost 3 weeks of everyone being sick in our family today finally I feel much better," she wrote on Feb. 17, one day after her birthday.

In the image shared with the note, she can be seen walking through the sand toward the water on a beach with her two little ones.

The Runaway Bride actor developed a bad cough before traveling that worsened while on vacay, prompting the hospital visit where he was diagnosed with pneumonia, according to a report by TMZ.

Richard and Alejandra wed in 2018, and have since welcomed two sons together—the first in February 2019, followed by a second in April 2020. The Maybe I Do star also has a 23-year-old son, Homer James Jigme Gere, with ex-wife Carey Lowell, while Alejandra has a third son named Albert from a previous relationship.
