Rey's Costume in 'Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker' Contains a Subtle Nod to Leia
Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker sees the nine-episode Skywalker Saga finally come to an end, with Rey taking centre stage. It revealed the role played by General Leia (Carrie Fisher) in Rey's training, but did you spot that Rey's costume also contains a touching nod to Leia?
In the upcoming The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker book, the original concept art for Rey's costume is revealed, with chief costume concept artist Glyn Dillon explaining how he referenced Leia in Rey's look.
"I thought white would look great," he explained (via Insider). "And then we added a hood to give it more of a Jedi vibe.
Some good news. Happy to share some exclusive #StarWars concept art from "The Art of Star Wars: #TheRiseofSkywalker." I've loved being able to cover this book series and learning a bit more about the process that has gone into creating the latest trilogy. https://t.co/MsBt1AsMvb pic.twitter.com/gtXt0NLjs7

"It's also a bit of Leia; from the side, I based it on the Leia hood from A New Hope." While Rey's final look in the film differs slightly from the concept art, the hood remained part of her costume.
In The Rise of Skywalker, Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd, who plays Lieutenant Connix, also stood in for her late mother in a flashback scene.
In the sequence, a younger Leia trains as a Jedi with brother Luke. Lourd played the body double with her mother's younger face pasted over hers.
Speaking about the filming, Lourd said: "Being back has been incredible, painful, surreal, all of the adjectives you can come up with probably I felt."
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is available to pre-order on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now.
