Rex Tillerson firing is a big joke for late night hosts

    Last Night Now•March 14, 2018

After president Trump abruptly fired secretary of state Rex Tillerson via Twitter on Tuesday, obviously, late night hosts had a lot to say about it. Tillerson reportedly learned of his firing from Trump’s tweet, which has been many people’s point of focus. But according to Conan O’Brien, maybe they should focus on how he was hired.

“Today President Trump, get this, he fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Twitter. He fired him on Twitter,” O’Brien said. “Yeah, it makes sense when you consider that Trump hired Tillerson on Tinder. That’s how they met.”

Tillerson is just one in a string of high level officials to leave the administration during Trump’s short tenure, and on The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon had an idea of who’s next.

Fallon said, “In the past few weeks, Gary Cohn, Hope Hicks and now Rex Tillerson have all left the White House. Most people said they're shocked while Betsy Devos was like, ‘Wait, how the hell am I still here? I mean, didn't anyone see "60 minutes?’”

On Late Night, Seth Meyers joked that Trump’s tweet was actually just a retweet, with the original coming from Russian president Vladimir Putin. While on The Late Show, Stephen Colbert found something about Trump’s tweet that could make getting fired sting just that much more.

“What could be worse than learning you got fired from your boss's tweet? Oh, maybe seeing that 86,000 people ‘Liked’ it,” Colbert said.

Hillary Clinton Hits Back At Donald Trump With List Of 'Real National Emergencies'

Brandon: "I voted numerous times when I was a senator to spend money to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in," Clinton told an audience at a campaign stop Nov. 9, 2015. "And I do think you have to control your borders." Clinton voted for the Secure Fence Act of 2006, which President George W. Bush signed after the measure cleared the Republican-held Congress. It authorized about 700 miles of fencing along certain stretches of land between the border of the United States and Mexico. The act also authorized the use of more vehicle barriers, checkpoints and lighting to curb illegal immigration, and the use of advanced technology such as satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles. Then-Sen. Clinton voted in favor of the act when it passed in the Senate by a vote of 80 to 19. (Notably, then-Sen. Barack Obama and New York Sen. Chuck Schumer voted for it, too.) Originally, the act called on the Department of Homeland Security to install at least two layers of reinforced fencing along some stretches of the border. That was amended later, however, through the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2008, which got rid of the double-layer requirement.
