What goes around, comes around, and the red carpet at the 2023 Emmy Awards on Monday in Los Angeles is offering a front row view of retro-inspired looks from celebrities like Katherine Heigl and Christina Ricci.

Christina Ricci

“Wednesday” actress Christina Ricci was styled by Julia von Boehm in a black Saint Laurent gown. The gothic look was reminiscent of Morticia Addams, which had a deep neckline that ended at Ricci’s waist, and featured a matching clutch and Martin Katz jewelry that included emeralds and diamonds. Her black velvet gown had a ’20s-inspired silhouette, with her hair styled akin to a flapper’s bob cut.

Katherine Heigl

Katherine Heigl wore a custom red Reem Acra gown that featured a sweetheart neckline, a dazzling gemstone by her waist and a flowing train. She combined her strapless, mermaid gown with Rahaminov Diamonds jewelry, including her dazzling necklace and clutch. Heigl’s red ensemble looked inspired by classic Hollywood, especially accentuated by her scarlet lipstick and blonde bob with curls at the ends.

Issa Rae

Styled by Wouri Vice, Issa Rae donned a gown from Pamella Roland’s spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection and a Mach & Mach bag. Rae’s look compared to that of a ’70s star, with the gown’s off-white feathers and gems adorning the entire piece from the bejeweled collar to sheer sleeves.

Calista Flockhart

Calista Flockhart was styled by Elizabeth Stewart and wore a Giorgio Armani Privé dress from the brand’s spring 2023 couture collection. Flockhart’s ensemble looked reminiscent of the frill of the ’80s, with a bright blue, button-down bodice that had black ruffles and a pointed collar. Her black skirt’s silhouette resembled a ’50s poodle skirt, falling just short of the actress’ pointed-toe shoes.
