Retail Intel: Mango Introduces a New Mediterranean-Inspired & Eco-Friendly Store Image + More

FN rounds up all the store openings, closings and redesigns happening this month, from throughout the footwear industry.

Feb. 18, 2021: Mango is launching a new store image pulling inspiration from Mediterranean culture. The locations will feature warm tones and neutral color tones, blended together with traditional, artisanal, sustainable and natural materials — think ceramic, wood, marble, esparto grass and leather. The locations will also be more environmentally forward with the implementation of energy-efficient lighting and temperature control, as well as eco-conscious materials such as natural paint. The first location to feature this new concept will be Düsseldorf, Germany, opening in March.

Feb. 16, 2021: In celebration of Black History Month, celebrity-favorite shoe brand Jessica Rich is launching at Nordstrom as part of the retailers Black Founders x Center Stage Pop Up. Starting in March, the label will available at Nordstrom.com and in five stores nationwide, including: New York City, Las Vegas, Houston and Miami. “I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to experience this next level for my brand. I have always had a goal to partner with a worldwide retailer, and I am thankful for Nordstrom giving me this opportunity,” founder Jessica Rich said.

Feb. 16, 2021: Louis Vuitton has unveiled its men’s spring-summer ’21 collection with a whimsical pop-up shop on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. The fashion house shared that the temporary residency showcases the collection “within the lively universe of The Adventures of Zoooom with friends, a fantastical crew of characters conceptualized by Men’s Artistic Director Virgil Abloh, on a raucous international voyage representing the fundamental belief in inclusivity at the core of the House’s approach to Menswear.” The pop-up is open to the public through the end of the month and will feature custom AR experiences on the exterior of the building. The QR codes will activate Snapchat filters that allow guests to interact with the Zoooomies. As for the collection, the looks are all made from recycled material and ensembles from the fall ’20 collection.

Feb. 12, 2021: Loeffler Randall is opening its first store at 10 Prince Street in New York City’s trendy SoHo neighborhood. The inaugural location — spanning 625 square feet and designed by Unionworks founder Poonam Khanna in collaboration with Loeffler Randall founder Jessie Randall — will spotlight the brand’s shoes, bags, jewelry, accessories and ready-to-wear. “In the 15 years since starting Loeffler Randall, I have always dreamt of having this store,” Randall said. “Our customers are like family, and this is the first time we can welcome them into our brand ‘home,’ where they can truly see themselves not only in our designs, but also in our environment.” The boutique, which opens on Feb. 24, features curved walls and an archway that divides the space, as well as ripple-fold drapery panels, lush velvet materials and plaster textures.

Feb. 9, 2021: Men’s shoe brand Taft Clothing has opened up a new shop in Dallas. The direct-to-consumer label, which was founded in 2013, is offering in-store appointments, which customers can book by emailing Dallas@TaftClothing.com or direct-messaging @Taft on Instagram. The location is at 3699 McKinney Ave., Ste. 303, in the city’s trendy West Village district.

Feb. 5, 2021: After setting up shop in Brooklyn last month, The RealReal has opened a store in Newport Beach, Calif. Located in the upscale Lido Marina Village, the retail space features a luxury consignment office, women’s ready-to-wear, handbags and shoes, as well as men’s bags and sneakers. The store will also house fine jewelry, watches, home decor and art. Additionally, the new location will offer a full menu of services, including cleaning and repairing. Like the brand’s other stores, the Newport Beach location was designed with the community in mind as it features a ’60s and ’70s California modern aesthetic. The space showcases an earth-toned color palette and includes Andrew Bush vintage prints and vintage ceramics.

Big Openings Last Month

Jan. 26, 2021: The RealReal is expanding its NYC brick-and-mortar footprint to Brooklyn, with a new store in the residential but artistic neighborhood of Cobble Hill. The store is the first to have a designated section for vintage and is curated for the Brooklyn customer. Inspired by the neighborhood’s art scene, the location features a painted tile mural by Brooklyn artist Cassie Griffin and sustainable elements throughout the shop such as cork flooring. Starting Tuesday, Jan. 26, the 2,500 square foot space will be open for shoppers to browse and consign. For more info visit Therealreal.com/brooklyn.

Jan. 15, 2021: Snipes is opening a new store at 1117 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, N.Y. To mark the latest addition to its expending roster of brick-and-mortar outposts, the retailer will present “Dunks Since 1985,” which honors 35 years of the Nike Dunk sneaker — named FN’s Shoe of the Year in 2020. From Jan. 21 (the official debut date of the store) to Feb. 18, the Eastern Parkway location will be outfitted with a built-in museum that highlights the iconic shoe’s 35 silhouettes, curated by Project Blitz.

Jan. 13, 2021: Dior is popping up in New York City’s trendy SoHo neighborhood. The luxury fashion house announced that it would present its Chez Moi collection — its first capsule entirely dedicated to loungewear — at 109 Greene St. starting this week through March 19. The line features embroidered velvet slides, cashmere ponchos, technical cotton bralettes and briefs, blankets and book tote. According to the company, the store is the first in a series of popups set to open around the world, including in Europe and Asia later in the year.
