Retail Intel: Mike Amiri Opens First Flagship Store on Rodeo Drive + More News

Sept. 25, 2020: Designer Mike Amiri is expanding his retail footprint with the opening of his first flagship store on Rodeo Drive. The Los Angeles-based label, Amiri, is known for its rockabilly-meets-urban-streetwear aesthetic and has garnered major attention from retailers and fashion fans since launching in 2014. The store will house the entire range of Amiri products including menswear, womenswear, footwear and accessories. In addition, the flagship will stock exclusives, including a special collaboration with the City of Beverly Hills. Officially opening on Sept. 26, the outpost is located at 461 N. Rodeo Dr. Beverly Hills, Calif.

Sept. 8, 2020: A Bathing Ape has opened a New York flagship store for its diffusion line, AAPE by A Bathing Ape. The retail shop is located at 340 Lafayette St., just north of Houston Street. It measures 2,400 square feet and will stock a selection of the brand’s inline, collaboration and limited-edition product. This marks the first AAPE store in New York and the second globally, following the opening of an L.A. door in 2017.

Sept. 3, 2020: Prada unveiled a new boutique in Tokyo’s Miyashita Park, a recently rebuilt shopping complex in the Shibuya district. Spanning more than 3,200 square feet on a single level, the store features a minimal design including a reimagined version of the brand’s signature black-and-white floor, accented by walls made from backlit “sponge” (a material created by the OMA design studio). Among the merchandise offered are bags, backpacks, accessories and shoes from Prada’s eco-friendly Re-Nylon collection.

Sept. 3, 2020: After being shuttered for months due to the coronavirus pandemic, the American Dream mall is welcoming back guests on Oct. 1. This is a big moment for mall tenants such as Zara, Primark and H&M, who are all opening their doors in the American Dream complex for the first time. The mall’s entertainment features — including Nickelodeon Universe, DreamWorks Water Park, Out of This World Blacklight Mini Golf and NHL-sized The Rink — will also resume operations the first of October.

Sept. 2, 2020: British heritage brand Belstaff has opened a store in the Meatpacking district in New York, at 62 Gansevoort St. In addition to offering product from the line, the 2,000-square-foot shop aims to serve as a community hub, regularly hosting events with local and international creators. The store also features a repair service for well-used product and a “build your own” station to create a custom Belstaff jacket.
