Dec. 12 2019: Fresh from its participation in Sarah Andelman and Mira Mikati’s Hello! Miami pop-up for Art Basel, Amrose is back on home turf with a 10-day pop-up in Paris. Expect four shearling-lined models from its new wool crocheted winter collection, which can be custom-embroidered on site. The brand has teamed up for the event with two fellow French brands that are similarly committed to a socially and ecologically responsible way of life — Elise Chalmin and Caudalie. Amrose’s shoes are hand crocheted by women in Kurdistan, who are trained and mentored by the brand. There will also be a dried flower workshop and an exhibition of the quirky illustrations that decorate the Amrose shoeboxes. The pop-up will be open Dec. 13–23, at 82 Rue de Martyrs, 75009 Paris.
Dec. 11, 2019: Vans has opened its first brand showcase store in Asia, located in Seoul’s Gangnam district. The space spans two floors of product displays from footwear to apparel as well as sections dedicated to skate, surf and snow merchandise. On the first floor, it features a wall of vintage speakers and TVs designed by Berlin-based sound sculpture artist Benoit Maubrey, adjacent to a live radio space where artists and musicians are invited to gather as an experiential offering to customers. The second floor, which houses a mural painted by Los Angeles-based Korean American artist Cryptik, has a customization zone that includes screen printing, embroidery and dip dyeing services. A shoppable timeline in the store allows visitors to learn about the key moments in Vans’ history from 1966 to today, while a library comes with an array of books and magazines available for reading.

Dec. 5, 2019: Target has announced plans to open a new small-format store in New York’s Times Square, located on 42nd Street between 7th and 8th avenues. It will span roughly 33,000 square feet and is expected to open by 2022. The outpost will be Target’s 10th opened or planned small-format store in the borough of Manhattan.
Dec. 4, 2019: Off-White is opening a Miami flagship store in January, Virgil Abloh announced today on Instagram. The designer shared an image of the storefront, which is under construction. The banner outside the storefront includes a number of flags and an airplane, as well as Off-White’s stretched-out-hands logo and black-and-white people graphics. The flagship is being designed by architecture and urban design firm OMA, according to Abloh’s post.
Dec. 2, 2019: Outdoor retail standout Backcountry is opening a pop-up shop in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City. The store will stock winter gear from top brands in the marketplace and be staffed by the retailer’s experts, dubbed “Gearheads.” It will be located at 119 Spring Street and opens Friday, Dec. 6. The shop will benefit global environmental nonprofit The Nature Conservancy, which is a Backcountry partner.
