Restaurant of the Week: Lake Superior Pizza Subs & Specialties

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WJMN) – Lake Superior Pizza Subs & Specialties is a family owned and operated business in Marquette.

“We are not just pizza’s,” said Kristin Demay, Owner. “We are subs, salads, chicken wings. We are the big plate of nachos. We are more than just the pizza rolls. You know it is just a little taste of everything. Each owner has added to the menu to make it their own. It is a little bit of a puzzle piece.”

They were founded in 1963, they have been through some different owner changes, but each one has put their own spin on the menu. Demay says they make it fun, and you will always be greeted by smiling faces when you walk in their door.

“We are known for our pizza rolls. They are the number one thing that we sell. They are always available and ready in the oven, but you can make they your own way. It is kind of staple; people come back and look for those. I don’t think it is anything special. It is one of those comfort foods that people come back to, and they are kind of like oh this reminds me of high school, or I remember when I was in high school or when I was in college. I think that is what really makes it. The environment, the restaurant, it is the legacy that it is leaving behind.”

With Demay taking over operation she has put her own spin on the menu items, and she created all of the specialty pizzas you can order.

“We have taken a lot of our menu items right off of the menu and turned them into pizza’s. Chicken Bacon Ranch, the Philly pizza is a spin on the double steak and cheese, the taco pizza is one you absolutely have to try.” said Demay. “We do now have a cauliflower crust, so those they are maybe gluten avoidance can come in and we have a gluten friendly cauliflower crust.”
