Restaurant of the Week: Breezy Point Bar

ESCANABA, Mich. (WJMN) — For this installment of our Restaurant of the Week, we take you to the shores of Lake Michigan for great food and an awesome view.

In many things including real estate, hotels and restaurants… location is very important. When it comes to a beautiful lakefront location, Breezy Point, just south of Escanaba, offers waterfront dining unlike any other place in the area.

The Breezy Point Bar was founded in 1944 as a lakeside bar. In 2007, Jerry Fontaine took over and added a wonderful menu to go along with the beautiful view.

“We do a lot of hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, fish fries. We put in a woodfired pizza oven. We have one of the best views of the lake,” said Fontaine.

Being right on the lake is the personality of Breezy Point, not only for the view, but the menu offers a wide range of fish and seafood. I stopped in on a Friday evening and saw firsthand how popular their fish fry is.

“Well, we have our wood fire oven, which is really nice because we do fresh homemade pizzas and we also do broiled fish in there on Friday nights and our appetizers. And then in the kitchen side, I do burgers, I do steaks, chicken,” Said Boye.

It’s hard to miss Breezy Point if you are traveling on M-35 south of Escanaba. They do a lot of tourist business, but their regulars are the life blood of this bar/restaurant, many have been coming for decades.

Manager Megan Lemire is grateful to their regulars, and those who have recently found this hidden gem. Once seated, customers realize how dedicated the staff is to customer service as well as good food.

“People who come here, they just always come back because they realize what people always say, we drive by this place all the time and we and we never stop in. We finally were able to and l my gosh, it’s amazing. So like, yeah, the view is incredible,” boasted Lemire. “And in the summer, it’s even better because people get to eat outside and it’s, and you know, drink outside.”

So, next time you’re in the Escanaba area, and want great food at a reasonable price as well as an amazing view of Lake Michigan, check out Breezy Point, but come hungry, and don’t forget the sunscreen.
