This new restaurant promises ‘an Italian experience unlike anything else’ in Boise

The married team behind a local dessert cart plans to launch a new restaurant concept.

Caffè Sorrento: Focacceria & Pasticceria is coming in November to 10668 W. Overland Road in Boise, according to an online announcement from the Tony Cannoli mobile food stand.

The shop will sell “a variety of Italian pastries (including cannoli!), freshly made gelato and granita, and Genovese focaccia by the slice or as a sandwich,” according to the Facebook post. It will be “an Italian experience unlike anything else in the Treasure Valley, much like a small and intimate Italian ‘bar.’”

Owned by Tony and Emma Curcuru, Caffè Sorrento will be fueled by Tony’s background as a kid “raised in an Italian-American home where going to Italy and enjoying authentic recipes was a normal part of my life.”

In 2017, Tony quit his job and moved to Italy, where he was inspired to return and create The Tony Cannoli. The Curcurus have “spent years developing and perfecting recipes to share with our community,” he wrote. “Emma has been incredibly talented when it comes to figuring out these recipes and after traveling to Italy with me herself, she’s developed her own love for the culture.

“When we can’t travel to Italy, we ‘go there’ by creating food that transports us there,” Tony wrote. “And that is what Caffè Sorrento will be.”

The Tony Cannoli cart rates 4.9 out of 5.0 stars on Google. “Holy moly, I can’t say enough good things about Tony’s cannolis,” one reviewer wrote.

Caffè Sorrento will take over the former Flour Child cakes and ice-cream sandwiches spot in a strip mall that includes Hooligan’s Pub and Flying Pie Pizzaria. The new cafe will have its own Facebook presence soon. In the meantime, details can be found at @thetonycannoli.
