Residents can drop off scrap metal, appliances, tools at Lewis County recycling event

May 15—Lewis County residents will have a chance to drop off scrap metal, household appliances and gently used tools from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at the old Winlock Drop Box, 1105 Winlock-Vader Road, as part of Lewis County's Community Recycle Events program.

Volunteers from the City of Vader and the Washington State University Lewis County Master Recycler Composter (MRC) Program will be on hand to help with the event. There will be separate areas for scrap metal items, non-refrigerated appliances (washers, dryers, stoves, ranges, hot water heaters and dishwashers) and refrigerated appliances (refrigerators, freezers and air conditioning units).

MRC volunteers will collect gently used tools for their future Tool Bucket Library, a borrowing system for household tools and equipment.

Any scrap metal item that is made of at least 75 percent metal may be recycled at the event, according to organizers. They advise customers to remove the glass turntable from microwaves and drain fluids from motors, such a lawnmower, before recycling.

No other recyclable materials or garbage will be accepted at the event.

A Department of Ecology grant is providing support for this event.
