The Resident Evil 4 Remake is Finally Available in VR

Capcom has been reeling off remakes of its popular Resident Evil franchise. Following the release of the second and third games from its series, the Japanese game developer created arguably its most complete horror title to date with the updated take on Resident Evil 4 for the Playstation 5. Even if you were too young to play the classic back in 2005, the remake more than stays true to the OG and actually exceeds it quite considerably — from the obvious graphical presentation to the more realistic gameplay mechanics.

If the title wasn't terrifying enough, Capcom has delivered on its promise to release the Resident Evil 4 Remake in an immersive VR iteration. Imagine the opening scene from the game, as you're being chased by a village of demented Ganados, and suddenly a chainsaw-weilding maniac comes chasing after you. Now add all the disturbing encounters throughout the game, from the lake to the dungeon to the lab and you've got a first-person take that will breathe added life into an already storied classic.

As some reviewers have noted, however, the game isn't without a few flaws. Namely, it becomes evident that it wasn't necessarily designed for VR as Leon Kennedy reverts to his normal third person profile as he performs melee actions or when engaging with items of levers. For a platform that stresses 'immersion' above all else, these 'out of body' moments can take players away from the hallmark of the VR version.

Nonetheless, the game delivers on most of the core elements that made both the original and the remake a hit success. Purchase a copy online by purchasing the Playstation VR2, which retails at most stores for $550 USD.
