When it comes to beauty, 'no one should feel excluded from the conversation'

Yahoo Lifestyle’s Diversity in Beauty Awards (the DIBs) highlight and celebrate personalities, brands, and products that embody inclusiveness and innovation. See the 2018 winners list here.

There are many different artists, editors, and influencers making their mark within the beauty industry, but there is a select group who are championing diversity within their work. Among those are six individuals who continue to push the conversation further, and for that very reason Yahoo Lifestyle enlisted these experts as judges for the 2018 Diversity in Beauty Awards.

In highlighting unique personalities, brands, and products that embody inclusion and innovation, Yahoo Lifestyle collaborated with personal trainer and wellness expert Massy Arias, beauty vlogger and entrepreneur Ellarie, celebrity hairstylist Vernon François, cosmetic chemist Ginger King, celebrity makeup artist Joanna Simkin, and Beauty Director Dana Oliver of Yahoo Lifestyle to vote on the best in skin care, hair care, brand leadership, and more.

According to François, it is important that we celebrate diversity within the beauty industry. He adds, “For so long, we’ve been shown this image that beauty is one sort of canvas, and we’ve always known that that isn’t the case.”

Simkin agrees on the need for the beauty industry to reflect the world around us. “I want things like television, movies, and magazines to look like what I see when I walk outside of my door, and that’s constant diversity, shapes, sizes, colors, tones, complexions,” she says.

Watch the video above to learn more about these beauty pros and discover why they are so passionate about diversity in beauty.
