'Reservations fell thru family came thru': Woman has lobster dinner on subway for birthday celebration

The New York City J train proved to be the perfect spot for a birthday celebration for one Californian woman, after her reservations at a restaurant fell through.

Amber Asaly, her cousin, and some of her friends hung up streamers, set up a table, and dined on lobster and pasta. And in true New York fashion, other subway riders ignored the party or snapped their own photos.

“We all dressed up. We made it like a Michelin-starred restaurant. That was kind of the whole point,” Asaly told the New York Post.

Along with her meal, the 26-year-old drank white wine and smashed a piñata on the train car. The L.A.-based photographer and her friends, who rode from Brooklyn into Manhattan and stayed on the train to return to the original borough, says that an MTA worker even saw them celebrating — and let them continue their ride and dine.

To be fair, there are far weirder happenings on the subway than a few women eating lobster and smashing piñatas. For instance, in 2016, one woman released crickets on the subway. The MTA employee was probably just happy for the women to clean up after their bash.

Perhaps next year, Asaly will celebrate her 27th on a Greyhound bus.

Asaly did not immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s requests for comment.
