Rescuers Care for Abandoned Baby Sand Hill Crane Found Alone in Fort Myers

The poor little thing's parents never came back.

The Clinic For The Rehabilitation Of Wildlife (CROW) located in Sanibel, Florida does so much wonderful rescue and rehabilitation work with animals and watching them save helpless creatures is always such a joy.

And it can be ridiculously adorable too, like in the case of this abandoned Sand Hill Crane that the organization found all alone in North Fort Meyers. Just look at this little fellow who was found alone in a nest.

The rescuers waited hours for the parents to return, but sadly they did not. Sandhill Cranes are pretty remarkable because they can leave the nest within eight hours of hatching and are even capable of swimming, but most stick by their parents until they are around nine to ten months of age.

TikTok viewers are loving this little one, and @NettieGrudowski comments, "So adorable.Thank you for taking care of the cute little colt." @ShirleySherman adds, "Thank you for all you do for these animals." @Lisatrentman comments, "Thank you CROW! Also learned something, did not know that the appropriate term was “colt."

After this baby got a clean bill of health, it was taken to Creature Safe Place where it will learn how to live among other Sandhill Cranes before it is released back into the wild. It's amazing to see how small and yellow they are and to think they grow into such large and graceful birds. How lucky this colt was found so he could one day grow into the adult version!
