Rescuer Shows What Depression Looks Like in Foster Cats and It's Heartbreaking

Everyone is hoping this sweet boy will finally adjust.

The World Health Organization estimates that about 5% of human adults suffer from depression, but it's not common knowledge that animals can go through it too. Sure, we've all seen those heartbreaking commercials of sad-looking animals waiting to be rescued, but long-term depression can affect any pet at any stage in their lives. Even though it's hard to think about, it's important to be aware of the signs and the ways to help.

That's why foster paw-rent @lisathespecialkitty posted a TikTok video about her foster cat, Fog, and his difficulties adjusting to his new home. This video was taken on day 2 of his foster journey, so rest assured--he's already come such a long way since then!

Oh, Fog! We're heartbroken to see him so shut down, but we can also understand why he's so deep in his feelings. Adjusting to a new home isn't easy, especially when it comes after so much hardship. We may not know the beginning of Fog's story, but it's such a relief to know that the rest of his chapters are going to be filled with care and love.

"My Heart!" gushed commenter @grimrawr. "He needs a quiet buddy to sit in the room & read while he adjusts. I want to cuddle & spoil him so bad." So do we! He'd make the perfect buddy for an introvert with lots of patience and love, and we have a feeling that perfect person just might find him through this video.

And don't worry! Fog is feeling more and more comfortable in his foster home every day. Just take a look at this update!

He may not be completely relaxed yet, but it sure looks like he's made great steps toward getting more comfortable. And we love to see it!
