Rescued Horses' Unbreakable Trust in Each Other Tugs at the Heartstrings

Sometimes, someone comes into your life for a reason. They may not be around for very long, but they leave the kind of impact you'll never forget no matter how hard you try. It could be a friend, a family member, a teacher, or even a colleague, but it's extra special when an animal leaves that kind of mark. Whether they change the life of a person or another animal, watching those kinds of bonds unfold is an absolute gift.

Just ask the folks at Foreverland Farm! This vegan, queer-run, nonprofit animal sanctuary is dedicated to giving their residents the best lives imaginable, and their passion truly shows. They do so many fun, enriching things for their animals, and they give them all the patience they need to thrive. Even a wild, rescued mustang like Daryl is living his best life at the farm, and it's largely thanks to his best friend, Pocket.

Pocket is a blind horse who now relies on Daryl to get around, and if that's not the ultimate show of trust, I don't know what is. Their bond is unmatched by anything I've ever seen, and a December 12 video from the farm has people smiling from ear to ear.

What a beautiful pair of besties! They look as calm and happy as can be while lying down in the pasture, and it sounds like their third herd mate was doing the very same thing. It's just precious!

This seems like a very special moment for the owners of @foreverlandfarm, especially since they worked so hard to give these rescue animals the lives they deserve. Daryl, for example, was bought for just $25 in 2021, after he was rounded up (as a wild horse!) and later deemed unadoptable. Just two years later, he's completely at peace and much more trusting of people. But of course, no one will ever compare to his BFF, Pocket.

Rescue Animals Need Time to Adjust to Even the Best Homes

As wonderful as it is to see the formerly wild mustang doing well under human care, it's important to remember that this peaceful scene was a long time coming for these rescue horses. Daryl has been with the farm for years, and it took months just for him to trust people enough to let a ferrier near his hooves. Fortunately, he's a lot more comfortable now!

Whether you're rescuing a horse, a hamster, or a shelter dog, there's a lot of patience involved in bringing home a new pet. Animal experts recommend following the 3-3-3 rule, which explains how long it can take for rescue dogs and cats to start reaching milestones in their new home. As Daryl and Pocket prove, a little time and love can go such a long way!
