Rescued calf and Australian shepherd form adorable friendship

An adorable calf saved from slaughter has become best friends -- with a dog.

Calvin the cow and Lincoln, an Australian shepherd, have been completely inseparable since they moment they met at the Black Goat Farm and Sanctuary in Ontario, Canada.

Calvin was born at a nearby dairy farm, but was due to be slaughtered. In order to keep producing milk, dairy cows have to give birth. But unfortunately, this results in a lot of unwanted calves, like Calvin.

"He was taken from his mom at two days old and put in a little concrete pen." Megan Mostacci, cofounder of the Black Goat Farm and Sanctuary, told The Dodo. The farm was determined to save him, so they spoke to the farmer and asked him to spare Calvin's life. Luckily, he agreed, and he was rescued shortly after.

Calvin entered a brand new life when he entered the Black Goat Farm and Sanctuary. He was filled with so much joy.

"He never got to go outdoors or stretch his legs and just run!" Mostacci said. "You can see how much he loves running."

According to The Dodo, Black Goat Farm and Sanctuary also houses two dogs. There, he befriended one of the two dogs, Lincoln, and the two quickly became best friends. Lincoln's role on the farm is to help raise the animals that are rescued, and he did just that. The two quickly became inseparable.

They play, run, jump, and even give each other tongue baths. When Calvin goes to sleep, Lincoln is right there watching over him.

"We've seen suffering and neglect that these poor helpless animals endure and we feel heartbroken along with them," Mostacci wrote on Facebook. "We save some - but we also see all the ones who cannot be helped. Sometimes it feels like we are fighting a losing battle."

"He was running and playing -- full of joy and life," Mostacci wrote. "He is one of the lucky ones. He is a reminder of why we do this."

Calvin is now living a happy life, with his new best friend, thanks to Megan and the Black Goat Farm and Sanctuary.
