Rescued Bunny Joins California Police Force As 'Wellness Officer'

What a cute little officer this bunny is!

One California police department just got a whole lot cuter. Shortly before Easter day, the Yuba City Police Department announced that a 'wellness officer' named Percy would be officially joining their team. Officer Percy is a bit different than his fellow officers, though--because he's a rabbit!

This rescued bunny has the most inspiring story, and it's only fitting that he joins the team that saved his life. It's a big change for the department, as they admitted in a Facebook announcement, but they couldn't be happier about their newest addition.

Congratulations on your promotion, Percy! You look oh-so-handsome in your vest, and we know you're making a huge difference in these officers' lives. After all, they made a huge impact on your life, too.

Yuba City Officer Carson spotted and saved the 'docile and friendly' bunny from the middle of the street, and nobody came to claim him as their own. Luckily, the very woman who rescued him wanted to adopt him, too!

It's no surprise that tons of Facebook users are loving the unique news. Commenter Katelyn Woods said, "showing this post to my rabbit so he knows he can grow up to be a police rabbit one day if he wants to." That's so cute! We completely understand the excitement, though--it's not every day we get to hear about a non-canine animal making a difference in their community.

"Brilliant and proven stress relief!" added Edie Parkhouse. "Way to be forward thinking YCPD. Well done!" That's so true--having animals around can be wonderful for mental health. We know Percy's new colleagues will love having him around as much as he'll love them!
