Rescue Sheep Gets New Prosthetic Leg Thanks to Donations From Generous Supporters

A rescue sheep named Cat who lives at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary was having a tough time getting around, as she's a tripod and walks on three legs. Cat had spent most of her life in a petting zoo before an animal activist helped get her and two other fellow sheep moved to the sanctuary.

Thanks to generous donors who support her journey, the sanctuary was able to get her fitted with a brand new prosthetic leg. They shared the sweetest video on on December 21 of her finally receiving it. This clip will make anyone light up!

Aw, look at how calm she is! She doesn't mind the process at all and seems to be pleased with the results.

Cat wouldn't have been able to get the prosthetic leg if it weren't for all the donations the sanctuary received from kind people.

And although it might take some getting used to, Cat can finally move around with the other sheep and feel a bit more independence.

How Sanctuaries Help Animals in Need

Sanctuaries play an important part in animal welfare, as they often rescue animals from slaughterhouses, fur farming, or unethical breeders.

Different from zoos, the main goal of sanctuaries is to provide a permanent home for the animals rescued and to promote animal welfare.

Most animal sanctuaries are non-profit organizations that help rehabilitate rescue animals who have been abandoned, neglected, and abused. They heavily rely on donations from strangers to cover vet bills, transport, supplies, food, and, in certain cases, prosthetics, which can run over $2K.

All the animals are cared for individually by the sanctuary staff, and their specific needs are addressed. Oftentimes, the staff introduces animals of the same species to bond and create new families, since many of the rescues are naturally social.

How To Help Sanctuaries

There are many ways to help sanctuaries, but the most beneficial way is by donating funds directly to their website or GoFundMe page.

However, volunteering and donating pet food and supplies are equally essential and as much appreciated as donating money. Some sanctuaries also have openings for full-time staff. So if helping animals is your passion, this could be your calling.

If your New Year's resolution is to be more giving, helping out an animal sanctuary by either donating or volunteering is a wonderful way to start 2024 by giving back.
