Reports on Why Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth Split Vary From “Zero Romance” to “Midlife Crisis”

Reese Witherspoon hopped on Instagram on Friday (a tried-and-true day for celeb split reveals) to announce that she and her husband Jim Toth are getting divorced. The joint statement was brief and to the point, and Reese and Jim one hundred percent did not get into the why of it all. But good news if you’re feeling nosy: There are multiple—some might say endless—reports from sources and insiders who have information about what went wrong…and all of them are wildly different.

Let’s kick things off with E! News, whose source claimed the split is completely drama-free: “There is no drama, no event or reason. They are just two people who have made this decision with the utmost love and respect and love for their child. You will see them out there co-parenting together.”

Page Six’s insider also confirmed drama-free vibes but said the divorce was due to a lack of romance in the marriage: “There’s no big scandal or drama, just two people who essentially became co-parents and don’t really have any romantic feelings for each other anymore,” the source said, adding that there’s “zero spark and zero romance left.”

Meanwhile, The Sun spoke to a “friend” of the couple who had a slightly more dramatic take: “Jim is the one who has changed massively just in the last few years. Jim just isn’t the guy Reese married and had a son with anymore. His personality, his attitude, and his whole take on life really changed when he got out of the agency business and decided he was tired of that stuffy world and being in the service business in general. Call it a midlife crisis if you want, but that’s when the tattoos, the chunky weird jewelry, and dressing like somebody half his age really took hold.”

And finally, we have People’s source, who said, “They really are the best of friends and this is such an amicable decision. They are so committed to co-parenting together. They are invested in their whole family and making this as smooth as possible for everyone.”
