From Town & Country

As the wait for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal baby continues, rumors have started to percolate suggesting that Meghan already gave birth to her child and the royal couple is keeping the baby a secret.

This theory, which by all credible accounts is false, stems from a couple of places. First, Meghan is reportedly past her expected due date. According to a tweet today from ITV reporter Chris Ship, she is "four days" overdue.

The fact that she hasn't been seen publicly since March is also fueling gossip, as is a statement from Buckingham Palace, which was released last month.

"Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private," reads the memo. "The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family."

Some royal watchers have interpreted the statement to mean that the baby could have been born already, and Meghan and Harry are currently "[celebrating] privately as a new family."

Finally, a recent announcement regarding Prince Harry's trip to the Netherlands next week in celebration of the 2020 Invictus Games also caused some raised eyebrows among royal watchers, as a new father traveling out of the country so quickly after the birth of his child is somewhat unusual.

But according to multiple royal reporters, baby Sussex has not arrived yet, and the Palace will notify the press when Meghan goes into labor, if at all possible.

As royal correspondent Victoria Murphy wrote in an article for T&C last month, it is "understood that it will be announced when the Duchess has gone into labor and there will another announcement at some stage following the birth." Thus far, no such announcement has been made.

On her Twitter account, Murphy also clarified that plans for Harry's trip to the Netherlands could change.

"My understanding on this trip is that plans will be reviewed if they need to be. This one year countdown to the Invictus Games is a fixed date which has been in the diary for many months," she wrote.

On Wednesday, Murphy's fellow royal correspondent Rebecca English, who writes for the Daily Mail, addressed the rumors head-on.

"#BabySussex isn’t secretly here, I’m assured," she wrote on Twitter. English reiterated her statement in a separate tweet on Thursday.

"Am assured that if they are able to tell us she has gone into labour, then they will. I think the misunderstanding about how much is being kept private came as a result of the initial, slightly badly-worded, press release."

Furthermore, a palace source told Katie Nicholl, “No royal baby yet,” on Wednesday.

“It’s a waiting game," another source close to the couple said."It’s up to Mother Nature."
