Report: Markelle Fultz will not play in NBA Summer League

After playing 23 total minutes in this past year’s NBA playoffs, it appears as if Philadelphia 76ers point guard and former No. 1 draft pick Markelle Fultz will continue to sit.

According to a Saturday report by PhillyVoice’s Kyle Neubeck, Fultz will not participate in Summer League. The decision follows much deliberation, according to Neubeck, and it was made due to Fultz’s comfort with his current developmental work with skills trainer Drew Hanlen.

Fultz, 20, played a mere 14 games this past year. He sat most of the season with a mysterious shoulder injury but still was able to average 7.1 points, 3.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game.

PhillyVoice also reported in Saturday’s piece that Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown has taken trips to California to watch Fultz work out. The piece also said the 76ers are being kept in the loop on developments with Fultz and Hanlen, who has also worked with Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine and many others.

Barring release of video from Hanlen, the next time Fultz will play in the public eye will be in September.
