‘You’ Has Been Renewed for a 5th and Final Season—Here’s What We Know
Looks like Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) will be getting one more season of stalking at Netflix: The popular thriller series, You, has just been renewed for a fifth and final season by the streaming platform.
This past season, we saw Joe take his horrors abroad, where he started teaching at a British university as (no surprise here) an English professor. However, things started to get quite interesting when the murderer found out that he had his own stalker and tormenter. (And things ended in quite an explosive fashion.)
So where does that leave us for the final season? Here's everything we know so far about season 5 of You.
1. Will Season 5 Be the Final Season of You?
Sorry, You fans. Season 5 will indeed be the final installment of the uber-popular psychological thriller series based on Caroline Kepnes's novels of the same name.
The news was shared in a post on the show's official Instagram page, where the caption read: “Goodbye... YOU. Joe Goldberg will return for the fifth and final season of YOU.”
As noted by Deadline, the final season will also see new showrunners, with Sera Gamble stepping down and executive producers Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo filling the role. (Gamble will continue to serve as an executive producer though.)
2. When Can We Expect You Season 5?
No official release date has been confirmed for You season 5 just yet, but let's remember—part 2 of season 4 only premiered on March 9. The fourth season was split into two sections, with the first half premiering on February 9, and the final episodes dropping a month later.
However, if we had to make a guess, we'd predict that season 5 of You will likely drop sometime in 2025. After the show was dropped by Lifetime and picked up by Netflix, each season has premiered a little under 2 years after the prior one. So, we'll likely see the final installment in either late 2024 or early 2025. All we know is we'll be counting down the days until then.
3. What Will You Season 5 Be About?
Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions told Deadline that the creators behind You had always envisioned the series as a 5-season story. “Ever since our friends at Alloy shared Caroline Kepnes’ fantastic book, we have always conceived it as a five-season journey. We are excited to continue our relationship with Mike and Justin as they take over the reins as co-showrunners and prepare to bring Joe Goldberg home,” they said.
At the end of season 4, we saw Joe return to New York, bringing viewers back to the city where the show began. Since the first season, we've seen him travel all over—from Los Angeles to the California suburbs all the way to London. However, whether Joe will finally get his comeuppance is still up in the air. (Luckily, Badgley has said he's returning for season 5.)
But as Netflix's VP of Scripted Series, Peter Friedlander, said: “We’re excited—and a bit terrified—to see how it all ends for Joe Goldberg, but one thing is for sure: You are in for an unforgettable ending.”
We can't wait.
