When I returned to New York after a week in Spain earlier this year, I was pleasantly surprised when my flight attendant told me that I could save time by submitting my passport information and customs declaration right in the palm of my hand on my iPhone.

All I had to do was download the secure Mobile Passport app. After answering a few simple questions and uploading my photos, I breezed past other passengers using the expedited "Mobile Passport Control Lane." In the blink of an eye, I was heading back to my apartment in the comfort of a yellow cab.

With more travels to Europe on the docket next year, my excitement for Mobile Passport grew when developer Airside Mobile revealed this week that it had teamed with Expedited Travel to integrate its RushMyPassport services into the app experience.

Now, you can get renew your passport in under 12 days and as little as 24 hours using the app. The routine passport processing time at the State Department is currently six to eight weeks, to put how much time you can save into perspective.

“It should be easy for U.S. passport holders to come home after an international trip,” Hans Miller, CEO of Airside Mobile, said in a new release. “With Mobile Passport and RushMyPassport services, travelers can prepare to zip through U.S. customs by doing the bulk of the administrative work upfront and without a trip to a passport office or enrollment center.”

Mobile Passport is becoming an increasingly popular way to reduce wait times, with Airside Mobile reporting more than 8 million downloads and partnerships with more than 30 airports and cruise ports across the nation. The app sends a renewal notification to users within six months of the date their passport expiration date.

So what are you waiting for? Download the app during the final countdown to the New Year, and make one of your resolutions putting it to use in 2020. There are an endless amount of beautiful places to visit around the world. Why pick just one?
