Remove Salmon Skin In Two Seconds With This Easy Hack

Never have to worry about taking half the salmon off again!

There's nothing better than a nice pan-fried seared salmon with a creamy herb sauce, roasted asparagus, and nice pomme purée (mashed potatoes.). Thank goodness we have a recipe or two. Much attention has to be placed on the main ingredient, the salmon. If you bought some fillets with the skin on, don't fret! Of course you can ask the fish monger to take the skin off for you, but rather than have that awkward conversation with a busy fish monger, you can do it yourself with this easy hack.

The Old Trick To Removing Salmon Skin

Now there was once upon a time when the only way to remove salmon skin was by using a knife. You had the task of making sure your knife glided under the skin perfectly for easy skin removal. This trick takes precision and practice to master to make sure you don't take too much of the "meat" away with the skin. Rather than becoming a chef with mad knife skills, a new hack can do the trick.

The New Trick To Removing Salmon Skin

TikToker, Rosie Reisman, gives us a crash course on how to remove the skin without even using a knife. All you need is a baking rack, a casserole dish, and boiling water. Once you have a rack over the casserole dish to catch the water, place the salmon (skin side up) on top of the rack. You can use a tea kettle or sauce pan to boil water. Once the water is boiling, gently pour a little water over the salmon skin. As you pour you can see the skin start to shrivel from the heat of the water. Let it sit for a minute and gently pull the skin off the salmon. Viola!

Don't Be Afraid of Skin

This hack will make your life a little bit easier, but if removing that skin still sounds like too much work to you, don't worry. A crispy skin on a salmon fillet is delicious and adds texture. Cook the salmon skin-down on a hot pan with oil and the high heat will fry the skin to a crisp.
