Reminder: There's No New Episode of 'The Good Doctor' on Tonight
The Good Doctor will not air a new season 3 episode on ABC on Monday.
Fans were sad to hear the news, saying they "can't wait that long."
Thankfully, The Good Doctor will return just one week later with the first episode of the two-part season 3 finale.
We're quickly approaching the end of The Good Doctor season 3, with just two episodes (both of which are part of a special two-part finale) remaining. But sadly, the show has a big announcement for fans: There will not be a new episode of The Good Doctor on ABC tonight.
When the show announced that it wouldn't be back until March 23 in a trailer for its two-part season 3 finale, fans were understandably pretty heartbroken. They took to Twitter to express their feelings about having to wait an extra week.
"The promo already has me holding my breath and we have to wait until the 23rd 😩," one fan wrote. "Wait did it say March 23? I can't wait that long!! 😬😩" tweeted another.
But really, why isn't there a new episode of The Good Doctor on tonight?
We know, we know — it's tough waiting for an extra week for a new episode of your favorite show, especially when we're this close to the season finale. But these short breaks are a common occurrence for major network TV shows: With just 20 episodes in a season that needs to air from September to (at least!) March, shows like The Good Doctor will take the occasional break throughout the season to make up that time. These weeks off might be planned around major cultural events (think: the World Series) or periods of historically low viewership (i.e. around the holidays), but sometimes they're just injected randomly throughout the season.
It's worth noting that tonight, in The Good Doctor's usual time slot, ABC is instead airing a 20/20 special on the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The special, which is titled "Pandemic: What You Need to Know," will be anchored by David Muir and will air from 10 to 11 p.m.
When The Good Doctor does return on March 23, we already know the episode is going to be huge. The teaser clip for the two-part season finale shows an earthquake hitting St. Bonaventure and promises that "not everyone will survive." Gulp.
Until then, fans will just have to wait patiently for the remaining two episodes of The Good Doctor season 3 — and maybe watch an episode or two on Hulu or the ABC website to help pass the time.
