Control 2, the sequel to Remedy’s spooky horror action game, is still in the “proof-of-concept” stage, according to the developer.

Speaking following the release of last week’s Alan Wake 2, Remedy also gave a brief update on other games it’s working on, including the Max Payne remakes, Condor and Codename Vanguard.

“Control 2 continues in the proof-of-concept stage. The plans for this sequel are ambitious, and we have seen good progress both in the designs and in the game build,” said CEO Tero Virtala. “We will continue at this stage for the next few quarters. We focus on proving the identified key elements before moving to the next stage and scaling up the team.”

Control was released in 2019 and is an action horror shooter, heavily influenced by works such as Mark Danielewski’s House of Leaves, Jeff Vandermeer’s Annihilation trilogy and other new weird fiction. It also became apparent on release that the story takes place in the same universe as Remedy’s Alan Wake games.

Remakes of classic slow-mo shooters Max Payne 1 and 2 are also in a good place, while multiplayer shooter Condor is also moving forward.

“Max Payne 1 & 2 remake progressed into the production readiness stage,” detailed Virtala. “We have gained clarity on the style and scope of the game, and we have an exceptionally well-organized team working on it. With these accomplishments, we are excited about the project and its future success.”

“Condor, a co-operative multiplayer game, has progressed from the proof-of-concept to the production readiness stage,” added Virtala. “We have acquired valuable insights into developing service-based games and are now in a better position to create a game players can engage with for years.”

Another project, codenamed Vanguard, has a publishing partner, but little else is known about it.

“In Codename Vanguard we are defining the next stages of the project with our publishing partner. At the same time the project is aiming towards completing the proof-of-concept stage by the end of the year,” said Virtala.

Days before Alan Wake 2 was released, Epic Games released Alan Wake: Flashback for Fortnite, a playable reimagining and recap of the first Alan Wake game, released 13 years ago.
