Frito-Lay’s Doritos 3D chips first launched in 1998 and became an instant fan favorite, according to the brand, so it makes us wonder why they were ever pulled from shelves. We can put those thoughts aside, because the three-dimensional snack is coming back to stores on Dec. 28.

The two flavors of the Doritos 3D Crunch are even more bold and spicy than ever. You have your choice of Chili Cheese Nacho and Spicy Ranch in those puffed tortilla shapes. They’ll be available in 2-ounce bags for $1.89 and 6-ounce bags for $4.29.

“Doritos 3D Crunch is one of our most anticipated product launches ever. What’s exciting is that we didn’t just bring back the original — we’ve evolved it to reflect the snacking trends of a new generation,” Rachel Ferdinando, SVP and CMO, Frito-Lay North America, said in a press release. “We’re thrilled to introduce a new version at a time when we all could use a small moment of joy.”

To kick off the exciting relaunch, Doritos has partnered with Ali Landry, who was spotlighted in the “Laundromat” Super Bowl commercial in 1999. She’s back with the brand to remind millennials how amazing they are and introduce them to Gen Z. Beginning on Dec. 28, you can join the #Doritos3DChallenge on TikTok, where Landry is asking people to catch the new chips in their mouths in the boldest way possible. The homage to the original commercial is bound to bring those nostalgic feelings!

ORIGINAL STORY: Dec. 7, 2020 at 11:55 a.m.

Some childhood treats were so good, we still wonder why they would ever be ripped from shelves. Dunkaroos made an epic comeback this year, and now our hearts will really be complete with Doritos 3D Crunch.

Chances are, the last time you had 3D Doritos, it was in the early 2000s, since that’s when the snack was discontinued. What made these bad boys so special? The triangle-shaped

chips were miniature-sized, and (as the name suggests) in 3D, so when you popped one in your mouth, you got an epic crunch even with the hole in the middle.

Rumors about the return of 3D Doritos began swirling on Instagram and Reddit over the past 3 weeks, and now we have word from Frito-Lay, the parent company of Doritos, that they’re actually coming back. The Frito-Lay Playbook details what we can expect during the first quarter of the new year. No offense to the other snacks, but all eyes are on the Doritos.

The Doritos 3D Crunch will be available in Chili Cheese Nacho and Spicy Ranch flavors. According to the company, the chips were the number-one most requested product on the Frito-Lay consumer contacts. No shocker here!

Unlike many products that we get a glimpse of in advance, we won’t have to wait long to reignite our ‘90s snacking. They’re expected to be welcomed on shelves on or around Jan. 18, 2021. If this is a sign for what’s in store on the snacking front in the new year, we’re going to be treating ourselves quite a bit!
