Relay For Life, retail therapy and more: 5 things to do in Springfield

When planning a dinner date goes haywire and ghosting goes last minute, don’t want around and spend this fresh spring weekend indoors – there’s plenty to do in Springfield this weekend that’ll be up your alley, no matter where that alley leads.

We've put together some variety to drop by around town, care to join?

Noises Off at the Hoogland

What: This play-within-a-play captures a touring theater troupe’s production of Nothing On in three comedic stages: dress rehearsal, the opening performance, and a performance towards the end of a debilitating run. Take a slip behind the scenes and let the kayfabe wash over you in Noises Off, where the follies and fearlessness of theater-folk from their untamed egos to passion drives the performance.

When: April 12 to 14 and again on April 19 to 21; Friday and Saturday shows start at 7:30 p.m. while Sunday shows start at 2 p.m.

Where: Hoogland Centre for the Arts, 420 S. 6th St.

More: Tickets can be purchased at hcfta.org/tickets at $22 per person.

More: 3 a.m. liquor sales coming to an end at Sangamon County bars this summer

Relay For Life Springfield

What: The annual Relay For Life Springfield gathers the community once more to help others overcome cancer. From survivors to caregivers, everyone can join in the event to support survivors and remember those who have been lost to cancer. Enjoy the Luminaria Ceremony, food from Twyford BBQ and join the American Cancer Society’s Survivor’s Lap.

When: April 13 from noon to 4 p.m.

Where: Sacred Heart Griffin High School’s west campus at 1200 W. Washington St.

More: For registration, donations or information check out RelayForLife.org/siumed.

3’s Company at Long Bridge golf course

In a morning of golf at Long Bridge golf course, putting or swing your own style, then coop up the night with drinks and food from the kitchen. 3’s Company, a local band covering '50s, '60s and '70s music, will be performing live throughout the night from 6:30 p.m. to closing at 9:30 p.m.

When: April 12, the live entertainment will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Not into retail therapy? Try forest therapy!

What: If buying clothes makes you stressed out and the idea of squeezing into seven pairs of jeans in a row brings anxiety to your gut – the Lincoln Memorial Garden welcomes locals to join in their Forest Bathing event. It’s a slow lackadaisical walk in the park, but don’t discount it to an everyday nature walk; certified guide Cassandra Claman with the Lincoln Memorial garden will guide participants through the forest to help participants develop a sensory-filled relationship with the surrounding nature. Group sizes are limited and pre-registration for this event is required.

When: April 13, starting at 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Where: The walk starts at 2301 East Lake Shore Drive

More: For pre-registration, contact the Lincoln Garden at (217) 529-1111 for a spot. Tickets are $25 but members of the garden have a $5 discount. More information can be found on the Lincoln Memorial Garden & Nature Center website.

Note: The Railyard's opening was postponed last week due to inclement weather and has been pushed forward to this weekend from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
