REI already had great value in its hands with the Co-op Cycles Generation e1.1, our pick for best e-bike that packs excellent hardware into a useful and versatile frame. At $1,500, it was already a high-value set of wheels, but it looks like REI is making room for the next generation of the bike: It has cut the price by 40%, bringing it down to a low of just under $900.

The Co-op Cycles Generation e1.1 e-bike is a dependable utility bike. Its compact, stout frame is nimble and manageable despite its weight, and the geometry is designed to support riders from 5 feet to up to 6 feet 3 inches tall, so it can easily be shared among a household. Even though the Co-op Cycles Generation e1.1 had a fairly low price for an e-bike even before this discount, it still has quality components, like its suspension fork and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors that can handle braking even when the bike is fully loaded.

The heart of the Co-op Cycles Generation e1.1’s electrical system is a 350W Bafang motor and a 417Wh battery that can cruise at 20 miles per hour and ride for 30 to 40 miles, which is plenty for general commuting and light hauling. That’s just what the bike is suited for as well, with an integrated rear rack that you can load up with groceries, packages or even a child seat.

Unless you’re a speed demon or after a sporty road bike, the Co-op Cycles Generation e1.1 is a great e-bike that can handle a lot of the needs of everyday cyclists, and its sub-$1,000 price is too good to pass up if you’ve been hunting for a new ride.
