Registration open for summer nature camps at Steele Creek Park

BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — Registration for a series of week-long summer nature camps at Steele Creek Park is now open, according to the City of Bristol, Tennessee.

The park will host six nature camps for ages 7–15 in June and July, sponsored by the Bristol Tennessee Department of Parks & Recreation. The camps will focus on ecology, herpetology, geology and more.

Below are the different camps that will be offered, per a news release:

  • June 3–7: Geology Rocks Camp for ages 13–15. Rocks, minerals, fossils, biology, physics and weather will be explored as the connection between Earth and space is examined.

  • June 10–14: Herpetology Camp for ages 10–12. Participants will be introduced to the study of amphibians and reptiles, including the frogs, toads, snakes, salamanders, turtles and lizards that live in Steele Creek Park.

  • June 17–21: Nature Discovery Camp for ages 7–9. Participants will learn the basics of the woods and creeks while exploring the unique habitats in the Southern Appalachians.

  • June 24–28: Conservation Camp for ages 10–12. Campers will learn how to reduce, reuse and recycle in this session focused on ecology, composting, sustainability and much more.

  • July 8–12: Art in Nature Camp for ages 7–9. Naturally inspired works of art will be the focus of this camp which centers around mixed media, journaling, basic meditation techniques and more.

  • July 15–19: Trailblazer Camp for ages 13–15. Many miles of Steele Creek Park will be explored as campers learn about trail basics, orienteering, wildlife and more.

The camps will be held Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

A $50 fee is required and includes a camp t-shirt and materials for the week. Some partial, need-based scholarships are available upon request.

Space is limited to 15 participants for each session.
