It’s an election year! And while the 2022 midterm elections don’t include a vote for President, they do determine which political party will control the two chambers of the United States Congress — the House of Representatives and the Senate. These bodies of government have a significant influence on the biggest issues facing the nation, including the fight to safeguard nationwide abortion access, protect our environment, and put an end to gun violence.

Apart from informing yourself on the issues and volunteering for candidates’ campaigns, the most important responsibility you have this election season is to vote. If this is your first year voting, you can register to vote online in a matter of minutes. To make the registration process as seamless as possible, we’ve compiled five easy ways you can register to vote online (if you haven’t already!).

The 2022 midterm elections are very (!!) soon. They take place on Tuesday, November 8. And even if you’ve registered before, there are several circumstances in which you might need to register again, including a change of address, name, or political party. If you think you’re registered but are even the tiniest bit unsure, don’t wait until November 8 to find out. All of the sites listed below can help you double-check your registration status in an instant.

Now, let’s get to it...

1. Rock the Vote

Rock the Vote offers comprehensive guides on how to vote, from registering to requesting an absentee ballot. To register, click here. You’ll be asked to input your email address and zip code, and from there, will enter the rest of your information, including name, address, driver’s license info, and date of birth. You may be directed to your state’s registration form for the final steps.

2. Vote.org

Visit Vote.org to register online in less than two minutes. You can also find a breakdown of each state’s election deadlines. Or, check out local early voting locations, find your polling place, locate a drop box (if you’re mailing in an absentee ballot), or track your ballot.

3. Vote.gov

Vote.gov is the official election website of the United States government. Select your state or territory from the dropdown, and find a direct link to the appropriate online registration form.

4. March For Our Lives

If you head over to the March For Our Lives website, you can register to vote, and according to the site, voter registration typically takes two minutes or less to complete. Amazing, right? All you have to do is click this link here and then enter your email address and zip code. From there, you'll be directed to your state's registration form.

5. HeadCount

HeadCount offers opportunities to register to vote online or by text message. You can also check your registration status and sign up to volunteer for grassroots organizations in your area. Curious to know what will be on your ballot come November 8? HeadCount also provides a “Find My Ballot” search engine, which you can find here. All you need to do is enter your address.

The HeadCount team has also organized a Voter 101 Guide that explains the entire midterm election process, including how to change your political party affiliation, what to bring to the polls, and how to fill out the ballot.
